Life of Pi: Film Review

Life of Pi: Film Review

Life of Pi is a captivating film about the survival of a young teenage boy stranded on a life boat for 227 days accompanied by a Bengal tiger. The story begins in a zoo in India owned by Pi's father where Pi quickly learns the nature of wild animals. The family then experiences some financially tough times and are forced to sell the zoo. Pi's father decides to move the family along with animals from his zoo on a container ship hoping to start a new life in Canada. Tragically during their voyage across the seas the ship is hit by a horrific storm in the night which ends up sinking, taking Pi's family and everything else on the ship down with it. Luckily for Pi he is able to scramble onto a life boat along with a tiger, orangutang, zebra and hyena and thats when his truly remarkable quest for survival really begins.

Review

I really enjoyed the film and thought that its terrific cinematic techniques is what truly brought Pi's adventure to life. The way some of the screens are shot and the contrasts of colours of each scene really help to engage the audience and further portray the relationships between the different characters, more specifically the ever evolving relationship between Pi and Richard Parker. It is a film about courage and survival along with many other positive messages including trying to make the best out of a difficult situation.
It emphasises the nature of never giving up through trail and failure and that everything can be overcome through patience and perseverance.

Overall, due to the combination of positive messages, captivating story line and expert cinematography I give Life of Pi an "extra spicy" review and recommend watching this film to anyone who is yet to experience this amazing adventure of a life time.
